Learn how communitites and local governments, like Moraga, can sustain our resources

Please join us on December 6, 2006 at 7:00 PM at the Moraga Library, to hear Timothy Burroughs speak about how local communities and local governments can analyze, benchmark and work towards a more sustainable future.
Tim is a Technical Program Officer working on the Cities for Climate Protection initiative for the International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI).
Local town governments are leading the way in the effort to address climate change. They are not only reducing emissions, but also saving money, cleaning the air, and increasing community sustainability.
Timothy Burroughs will explain the tools, resources, and methodology that ICLEI provides its member communities in order to assist them to meet their climate protection goals. He will highlight specific examples of cities in action, show the potential for regional climate protection efforts, and show how Moraga can join in these activities.

Battery Collection is still going very strongly in Moraga.

Click here to see the pdf file that shows our latest tally:   battery-graph.pdf

A big thank you to all the volunteers who have been collecting the batteries and taking them to Martinez to be recycled.  Thank you too to the Moraga stores supporting the project!
The following vendors participated in our program by accepting collection bins at their stores.
Computer & Business Solutions (CBS); Longs at Moraga Center (LONG-M);
Longs at Rheem (LONG-R);  Moraga Hardware (ACE); OSH; Safeway (SFW).

In mid August, CBS went out of business and SFW withdrew from our program. SFW used to bring in the vast majority of batteries, being the most frequented store. Its withdrawal from our program, however, did not curb Moragans’ commitment. As shown in the graph, an average of ~800 lbs of batteries is collected each month in our Town.
